 The climate of the United States, ranging from subtropical to arctic, which implies a great variety of flora and fauna. Washington, DC is the capital and has a population of 606,900 inhabitants (2000). 'DC' stands for 'District of Columbia', ie an administrative district created for the capital is not in any state. Washington is a city of parks, tree-lined streets and buildings of white marble and unlike the large American cities do not have many skyscrapers. Among the most interesting places to visit in the United States is the Yosemite National Park, Grand Canyon, the reservation in the Florida Everglades, Death Valley, the Chinese quarter of San Francisco, Golden Gate and of course Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty in New York.
